Rave review of the Bartlett Cello Mic

Dear Bruce,

Initial impressions of the cello mic are very favorable! I ran it into the Beringer 48v phantom power box you rec'd into the xlr on my MarkBass 121P combo. Input gain set at noon. Master volume varied.

The amp is voiced for electric bass but the set up sounds great with no eq on the amp or use of my Fishman eq box. Rich and natural, supports the acoustic sound. Much better than the nice Realist piezo I used. Lows are clear and full, not boomy. No boxy mids. I can manage a touch of excessive resonance around 4th to 6th positions on the A and D strings with the bow.

The mic responds quickly and accurately to changes in dynamics and color from the bow. I experimented with mic placement, and it seems not overly sensitive or fussy. I'll have to see how my rubber mute does sitting between the mic and the bridge. I'll hear if moving the mute and having the mic foam rubber between the string afterlengths affects location of wolf tones and adjust if needed.

Next I'll test my old Roland Bass Cube amp for a very small amp option. I ordered the Shure impedance transformer you rec'd for that set up.

My wooden cello especially is going to get out of the house a lot more with this setup. Hooray.

Thanks!
