About Us

Bruce Bartlett, manager/engineer of Bartlett Audio

"One of the best parts of my job is talking one-on-one with a customer – whether it's a fiddle player, guitarist, sound engineer, or music director, it's great to help them with their audio problems." – Bruce Bartlett, manager/engineer

Our company was formed in 2009 to design and build high-quality microphones at a fair price, and to offer excellent customer support direct from the designer. In 2012 Bartlett Microphones became Bartlett Audio, featuring new mic circuits for even better performance.

Each of our mics is voiced or tuned for a specific instrument: fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, cello and bass. We aim to make each clip-on mic sound like a good studio mic placed in front of the instrument. The mics are small and inconspicuous without any clumsy hardware. No modification of your instrument is needed.

We hand-build and 100% test our microphones in our workshop, backing our products with warranties and a money-back guarantee. Wherever possible, we use local suppliers and USA-made parts. We computer-test and listen-test each mic before shipping it, using TEF software and an ACO Pacific lab-reference microphone. And we use biodegradable packaging.

Microphone designer Bruce Bartlett has 30 years of experience at Shure and Crown International. At Crown Bruce developed their line of microphones including the PCC™-160 stage-floor mic and CM-311A headworn mic.

A member of the Audio Engineering Society, Bruce has written 8 books and hundreds of articles on audio topics. A lifelong musician, he has run a recording studio for over 25 years.

We're excited to be working now with Les Watts of LM Watts Technology, a brilliant circuit designer, mic engineer and inventor.

Some users of our instrument mics are the Turtle Island Quartet, Flatt Lonesome, Volume Five, The Watkins Family Band, Erick Jaskowiak, Lisa Gutkin of the Klezmatics, Jeremy Kittel, Michael Doucet of Beausoleil, Panache Quartet, Ebony Hillbillies, Alex Hargreaves, The Cleverlys, Remington Ryde, Sweetback Sisters, Brittany Hass, Natalie Haas, Donna Hebert, Jane Rothfield, Julie Lieberman, April Verch band, Rayna Gellert, Darol Anger, Jack Devereux, Jody Hughes, Lissa Schneckenburger, Jason McGuire, Aris Quiroga, Andreas Arnold, John Mailander and many others. Our mics are currently used in 50 countries and all 50 states.
